TO CUSTOM MAKE YOUR DESIGNER PRESCRIPTION GLASSES WE NEED YOUR EYE MEASUREMENTS (FITTING MEASUREMENTS). WE HAVE DEVELOPED AN EASY WAY TO OBTAIN YOURS WITHOUT YOU BEING PRESENT.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO READ THE WHOLE OF THIS PAGE.
YOU DO HAVE TO FOLLOW ONE OF THESE FOUR MEASURING OPTIONS.
FOR EASY MEASURING JUST FOLLOW OPTION 1 OR OPTION 2.

WITH OPTION 1 YOU JUST SEND US A PHOTOGRAPH.
WITH OPTION 2 YOU CAN TAKE THE EYE MEASUREMENTS.

Your fitting measurements and method used (option 1, 2, 3 or 4) is entered on our order form which is accessed via the Cashier when making your purchase.

OPTION 1
This is the easiest of the fitting options as we do all the measuring.
Just send us a picture (or part picture) of your FULL FACE square on.
Your eyes should be wide open and looking into the DISTANCE.
A CREDIT CARD, a RULER, or a EURO COIN, held against your forehead, MUST be in the picture. We need one of these to use as a measuring aid.
If you prefer to retain your anonymity you need only send that part of the picture containing your eyes and the measuring aid.
The easiest way to get the best picture is to use a photo booth in the high street.
It's quick, cheap, convenient, and the quality is excellent for measuring.

We can recover the measurements for all the lens types from this DISTANCE focus picture.
You simply enjoy our products at bargain prices. All you have to do is smile.
Please follow and print our guidance notes to get the best photo booth picture.

Use a photo booth in the high street; it's quick, cheap and easy.
A portrait size is the best and cheapest picture to send us, but a small one will also do.
Just follow the instructions in the photo booth for a portrait size picture.
The picture must be full face and square on. Do not turn to the side, not even slightly.
A CREDIT CARD, a RULER or a EURO COIN, held against your forehead, MUST be in the picture.
(This is VERY IMPORTANT. One of the above three 'measuring aids' must be clearly visible)
(Ensure your fingers cover the credit card details; we only need to see one full edge of the card)
(A store card or phone card is also fine as they are the same size as credit cards)
(If selecting a ruler please ensure we can clearly see the markings)
(If selecting a euro coin, use a ONE or TWO euro coin and write it on the back of the picture)
A clear view of the pupils of your eyes is needed for accurate measuring.
Please mark the back of the pictures with your name and post code or zip code.
Send the picture to; P.O. Box 1027. Spalding. PE12 0SQ. England.
That's all you have to do; it's that easy.

ALTERNATIVE FITTING OPTION 2, BELOW, DOESN'T NEED A PHOTOGRAPH.
IT IS A GOOD ALTERNATIVE IF YOU PREFER NOT TO SEND A PHOTOGRAPH.

OPTION 2
If you prefer not to send a picture of your face you can take the fitting measurements yourself.
You will need someone to take the measurements with you. (Alternatively also read DIY below). It's easy but accuracy is important. Please check the measurements several times.

Measuring is basic but accuracy is important. Practice makes perfect so try several times.
If you get different measurement results, discard any extreme figures and enter the average measurements.
Please remember, all measurements are in millimetres (mm). (Use a centimetre rule)

Remember the convention that when referring to Right and Left eyes we mean YOUR RIGHT and YOUR LEFT eyes.

You and your measurer must face each other.
Your eyes and head must be aligned and perpendicular to the horizontal and vertical axis.

For measuring you must sit and relax and practice looking at a DISTANT object and ignore everything else. After a few minutes, and whilst still staring at the distant object, gently move your hand back and forth at arms length in front of your face. Remain focused on the distant object and ignore the hand movements. When you can do this ask your measurer to take position in front of you. Initially you may switch to focus on your measurer but after a couple of attempts you will be able to keep the relaxed distant focus throughout the entire measuring procedure.
(TIP: Easier if you are higher than your measurer; e.g. use cushions or sit on a higher chair and get the measurer to kneel down).

The measurer must then proceed as follows:
Gently place a stiff card along your forehead and just above both of your eyes.
Mark on the card the centre of the bridge of your nose.
Also mark the centre of each pupil when you are looking at a DISTANT object.
(Please be careful as discrepancies in measurements can occur if too much pressure is placed on the card causing the skin of the forehead to move slightly).

You now have three marks, giving you three measurements, for DISTANCE vision.

Distance Measurements

DISTANCE BETWEEN THE PUPILS (a). (Measure between the outer marks)
RIGHT EYE HORIZONTAL MEASUREMENT (b). (Centre mark to left mark).
LEFT EYE HORIZONTAL MEASUREMENT (c). (Centre mark to right mark).

You now have the three measurements to enter on the order form.
That's all you have to do; it's easy, but please check and don't rush.

(Distance between pupils = right eye + left eye measurements)
(Example: 65 = 33 + 32 ; for Distance Vision)

DIY. Only if good at measuring, you can take your own measurements yourself.
Look into a mirror. Gently place a stiff card across the bridge of your nose as before.
Mark the centre of each pupil, and the centre of the bridge of your nose. (Please be careful as discrepancies in measurements can occur if too much pressure is placed on the card causing the skin of the forehead to move slightly).
You now have the three measurements to enter on the order form as described above.

If really good at measuring use a cm rule and read off the measurements;
be very aware of which is Your Right Eye and Your Left Eye when looking into a mirror!!

GUIDANCE NOTES FOR TAKING THE PICTURES YOURSELF.
Click the 'Print Notes' button to print a copy of these Guidance Notes Print Notes
The picture should be at least 35mm format. (The most popular film size)
(A sharp well focused Polaroid clearly showing the pupils of your eyes can also be used)
Prints from digital photography are fine. (See E-mail Photo Submission below)
Prints must be on Photo Quality paper.
The picture must be full face and square on. Do not turn to the side, not even slightly.
The picture MUST be taken when YOU are looking at a DISTANT object.
(This is VERY IMPORTANT. Look just above the camera and photographer at the horizon)
The photographer should crouch down very slightly; especially if they are taller than you.
(N.B. Using your web cam on your monitor is NOT looking at a DISTANT object. You must
either reposition your web cam so that you can focus on a distant object [e.g. look out of a
window on the horizon] or place a mirror behind the web cam so that you can focus on a distant
object in the mirror; [only possible if you are in a large room, or there is a window behind you]).
The picture should be taken in daylight without flash to avoid red eye.
Prints must be on Photo Quality paper.
{Please also ask your photographer to take your fitting measurements as described in Option 2,
as well and write them on the back of the print. We advise this because any defect in focus or
sharpness not obvious on a small print can prevent accurate measuring when enlarged}
Please mark the back of the pictures with your name and post code or zip code.
Send the pictures to; P.O. Box 1027. Spalding. PE12 0SQ. England.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION AND FULL FITTING OPTIONS

You are probably aware that your eyes both converge and lower when you change your focus from looking at a distant object to a close object and conversely both diverge and rise again when you focus back to a distant object. This effectively means that you look through a different part of the spectacle lens for distant vision and for near vision.

Because of this we need some basic measurements of your eyes so that your personal prescription spectacle lenses can be fixed within your choice of frame so they sit directly in front of the pupils of your eyes to give you optimum performance for both distance and near vision.

To simplify matters we only need the measurements of your eyes when they are in the distant focus position. That is at their widest apart.
All the other measurements for near vision can be calculated; the specifics of which we won't bore you with here.

We only need three basic measurements when your eyes are focused on a DISTANT object:
The DISTANCE BETWEEN THE CENTRES OF THE PUPILS OF YOUR EYES (a).
The DISTANCE FROM THE CENTRE OF THE BRIDGE OF YOUR NOSE TO THE CENTRE OF YOUR RIGHT PUPIL (b).
The DISTANCE FROM THE CENTRE OF THE BRIDGE OF YOUR NOSE TO THE CENTRE OF YOUR LEFT PUPIL (c).

You will notice that (a) = (b) + (c) but we need (b) and (c) because some of us
do not have symmetrical faces and so (b) and (c) can be slightly different.

Thanks to an ingeniously simple method that we have developed, we can obtain your measurements without you having to attend for a fitting, All you have to do is smile.
See Option 1, above.

We offer FOUR FITTING OR MEASURING OPTIONS.
We recommend Option 1, because it is so easy and we do all the measuring for you.
When you next see a photo booth in the high street get your portrait picture taken.
(Remember to include a measuring aid [credit card] on your forehead)
Options 2 is a good alternative for those wishing to take their own measurements.
Options 3, & 4, are included as alternatives to meet individual personal preferences.

OPTION 3
From now, whenever you have an eye test or buy spectacles from an optician insist they give you a copy of your fitting measurements.
(Yes, you can insist on this. If they won't give you the measurements take your custom to someone that will.)

You can then use the measurements to buy from ruOK4specs.com.

This is particularly useful if you want an inexpensive second pair, or you wish to try a new style or lens type

OPTION 4
Without fitting measurements we will still supply your order but please note this can give poor results, particularly if your prescription is high, as we can only guess at your fitting by using average measurements.

The usefulness of this option can be improved (as with all the options) by selecting frames that are round and small, currently very fashionable.

That concludes the current options for fitting.

Remember your chosen fitting option (1,2,3, or 4) as we ask you to enter it on the order form.

Option 1 is the simplest and the one we recommend.
If using Option 2 please make several measurement checks.
Ask family and friends for help and advice.

PLEASE BE ADVISED - IF YOU ARE PRONE TO EYE DISEASES OR BALANCE PROBLEMS - THERE IS NO SUBSTITUTE FOR A 1-1 PERSONAL FITTING BY AN EXPERT DISPENSER WHO KNOWS YOUR PARTICULAR UNIQUE PROBLEMS AND CAN DISPENSE ACCORDINGLY AND KEEP A REGULAR CHECK ON ANY HEALTH PROBLEMS.
